WENDY STAHL

Background:

I moved to Brookline with my family in the summer of 2020 because we were fearful of the increasing fires where we were living in California. I am a psychiatrist who graduated from medical school and residency at UCLA and worked with people experiencing poverty and housing instability in LA county, before moving here.

My husband, Jon, and I own our home in Pill Hill and we have two kids: Sophie, a 2nd grader at Lincoln, and Charlie, a soon-to-be kindergartner.

Local Involvement:

Since moving here, I have been a local climate champion as part of the leadership team of Mothers Out Front, and as the  newly elected Chair of Brookline's Zero Emissions Advisory Board whose mission is to get Brookline to net-zero emissions by 2040.

I helped champion 6 climate focused warrant articles through Town Meeting last year, even though I was not a Town Meeting member. I hope to be elected so I can not only propose good climate policies for the Town, but I can also vote to support them.

My Stance On Current Issues:

The Climate Crisis:

Brookline has been a leader on climate action and we need to continue to do so. The biggest thing we can do is stop burning things... in our car engines and in our home heating systems in particular. I believe that local action can spark state action, and that if we work creatively and boldly as a town, we have the power to improve the future of the planet we all share.

Affordability and Housing:

Brookline is fast losing its vibrant middle class, and we need to make sure that housing opportunities remain available to a wide variety of incomes.  I am supportive of the MBTA Communities Act and feel it's our duty to periodically update our zoning bylaws to adapt to current realities. Additionally, we need to fund programs that will uplift our most vulnerable residents, and allow every person to thrive.
